Why Dance?
Studio K Dance Center is committed to providing you and your child with high quality dance training. There is a great need to give our youth programs that build confidence, self-esteem, commitment, and friendship. With budget cuts to the arts in our schools, children are missing out on a very important part of their education. Through research, we know that teaching motor skills is the most effective way to build the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual skills of children. Much like learning language, the earlier you start, the easier it is. And the more you stay with it, the more successful you are. Dance is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain body awareness, movement theory, poise, balance, physical fitness, and coordination. Our goal is to instill qualities that will benefit a child throughout life and help our students discover their very own special abilities.
A Little About Styles
We offer many styles of dance here at Studio K. If you are new to dance, you may not have heard of some of them so we'll take a brief moment to try and explain a few. All of the genres offer artistic expression and exercise.
Ballet - Ballet is a classical art form requiring grace and precision. Ballet fundamentals are essential to mastering lines and body placement in different genres of dance. Ballet technique uses five main positions of the arms and legs.
Tap - Tap dance is performed with metal taps attached to the sole of shoes, creating precise rhythmic beats. Tap can be danced acappella or with music. This style of dance is about detail, precision, and articulation of a dancer's balls and heels of their feet.
Jazz - Jazz is a stylish form of dance that incorporates energetic, dynamic, and intricate movements. Jazz is influenced by rhythms and beats. This style of dance has evolved over time and varies within different cultures. The style uses traveling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all utilize strength and flexibility.
Lyrical - Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. This style is a very passionate and emotional dance style.
Contemporary - Contemporary is an interpretative style of dance derived from modern dance. The dancer embodies an emotion or character and executes it through committed movements. Ballet and jazz technique are often used to deliver strong expressive contemporary pieces.
